Norma Jean Copeland Holloway, age 95, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at Shannondale Healthcare Center Knoxville. Born January 7, 1926 in Knoxville, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, James Walter Holloway, Jr. Her parents, James McMinn Copeland, Sr. and Hattie Belle Fritts Copeland, and her brother James McMinn Copeland, Jr. She is survived by children, Jeanne Elizabeth Holloway (Larry) Ridley of Knoxville, Jo Anne Holloway (Terry) Barco of Elberon, VA, Jenny Lynn Holloway (Roger) Mullins of Knoxville, James Walter (Diane) Holloway, III of Knoxville, John Edward (Velica) Holloway of Knoxville and Joseph Leek (Karen) Holloway, Sr. of Knoxville; sister Marjorie (Floyd Eugene) Williams of Charlotte, NC, grandchildren Elizabeth Ridley, Emily Ridley Michel, Joseph Barco, Timothy Barco, Rachel Barco Beck, Bailey Barco, Casey Mullins, Corey Mullins, James Holloway, IV, Jessica Holloway Palmer, Sarah Holloway Best, Julia Holloway Watson, Hannah Holloway Haney, Jay Cash, Melissa Rogers, Amy Holloway Pitts, Joyce Holloway, Laura Holloway, Whitney Holloway, Meredith Holloway, Joseph Leek Holloway, Jr., Jesse Holloway, Jordan Holloway Kemp, and Juliette Holloway, 28 great-grandchildren, and 6 great great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Norma was a graduate of Knoxville High School, Class of 1943-B and was employed with Western Union. She served on the Knox County PTA Council, was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader and enjoyed embroidery and quilting, winning many ribbons at the Tennessee Valley A&I Fair. She has resided in the Shannondale Retirement Center, Assisted Living and Healthcare Center since May, 2012. She had an abiding love for tending plants in her yard as well as in her quarters at Shannondale. She was a member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church, Deaderick Avenue Baptist Church and Valley Grove Baptist Church, serving in the nursery and beginner departments through the years. She was a member of the First Families of Tennessee as a descendants of Julius Dugger. The family wishes to thank the fourth floor staff at Shannondale Healthcare Center and the physicians who have cared for her through the years including Drs. David Hancock, Wesley Payne, George Krisle and F. Neal Peebles and P.A. Eric Stone. Thanks also to the staff of Amedisys Hospice. Family and friends will gather at 12:45 pm Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery (5901 Lyons View Pike), for a 1:00 pm graveside service with Jay Cash and Chaplain Eric Bronkala officiating.
