Opal Irene Claiborne Maples, age 96 went to be with the Lord on Friday January 22, 2021 at the home of her daughter. Former member of 8th Ave. Church of God but attended City View Baptist Church. Loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. She was a great Christian woman that lead by example, loved teaching Sunday School, cooking, writing, planting flowers, playing her piano, helping and encouraging others, being with family and friends, and talking about and praising the Lord. Known to her grandchildren as Meemee. She retired from the State of Tennessee Child Support Division. She was a fighter and overcomer of many obstacles in her life, and her faith brought her through. She had many people in her life that may not have been blood relations, but she still consider them family. She was always there to listen to your problems and be a shoulder to cry on. She had warm loving hugs, and wrote words of encouragement to friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Roy Claiborne and Fred Maples; parents, Ollie (O. J.) and Lena Caughorn; brothers, Ollie II and Thurman Caughorn; great grandson, baby Steven Hall; nephew, Jimmy Caughorn whom she raised. She is survived by her children, James Claiborne and Janet (Steve) Hall; grandchildren, Matthew and Morgan Claiborne, Melissa (Matt) Brogger, Steve II (Nikki) Hall, Rebecca (Ronnie) Toomire, John and Christopher Hall; great grandchildren, Janette (Brandon) Pattillo, Stephanie, Timothy and Norah Toomire, Faith Brogger, and Trey Hall; great great grandchild, Gabriel Pattillo; sister-in-law, Barbara Baker and family; stepchildren, Nancy Mathis and family, Tracy Hubbs and family, several nieces, nephews and close friends. The family wants to give a special thanks to UT Hospice, Beehive Homes Assisted Living Staff, Sharon and Jim Godfreys family, Rachel and Phil Pfadenhauer and loving hairdresser Monica Nowicky. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 pm Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 7:30 pm with Pastor Clarence Gresham, Jr. officiating. Family and friends will gather at 2:45 pm Friday, January 29, 2021 at Greenwood Cemetery for a 3:00 pm graveside service. Online condolences may be extended at www.rosemortuary.com.
