Ruth Sandberg Robinson, 90, of Knoxville, passed away Friday, December 3, from complications of dementia. She was known as “Miss Ruth” by all who knew and loved her for her gracious Southern charm and presence. A Fountain City native, Miss Ruth graduated from Central High and Knoxville Business College. She pitched for the Fountain City softball team and held the state no-hitter record for many years. She modeled for years in Knoxville, New York and Miami. A member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Miss Ruth spent her business career as an executive assistant, paralegal then CFO of R&T Supply Co. Miss Ruth was preceded in death by her husband James T. Robinson, Jr., siblings Harold Sandberg, Roy Sandberg, Richard Sandberg, Evelyn Preschel and Jane Barker, and parents W.T. Sandberg and Clora Anderson Sandberg. Miss Ruth is survived by children David Tate (Pam Tate) and Deborah Robinson (Dale Ross); stepchildren Teddie Robinson McMahon (Charlie McMahon), Jan Chambers Gordon (Peter Gordon) and Bill Chambers (Janet Chambers); and grandson Curt Tate ( Erica Tate). A lifelong University of Tennessee fan, she held season football tickets for 50 years. She was an avid golfer at Holston Hills Country Club, and member of the HHCC Ladies Golf Association, Ruth was a member of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church and active in the Emmaus program. Receiving friends will be Tuesday, December 7, at 1 p.m. at Rose Funeral & Cremation - Mann, with services at 2 p.m. Internment will follow at Highland Memorial. Reverend Clay Harrington, seniors pastor, Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Knoxville Area Rescue Mission.
