    Virginia Barnes Lyman

    October 16, 1925 - January 23, 2022

    Virginia Barnes Lyman, age 96, passed away on Sunday, January 23rd, 2022 at NHC Farragut. She was born October 16th, 1925 in Eutaw, Alabama to Robert Haywood Barnes and Virginia White Barnes. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Edward Lyman and her three siblings Olive Barnes Lee, Robert Haywood Barnes, Jr. and Fanelle Barnes Hennessy. Virginia grew up in Montevallo, Alabama. She graduated from Montevallo College with a degree in art education. She was an excellent seamstress who enjoyed making clothes as well as window treatments. She also loved to travel. Among her favorites were trips to England, France, Belgium, and Holland. She was an active member of her church, The Episcopal Church of the Good Samaritan, until her health declined. She especially enjoyed working in the church’s food ministry, FISH. She was always a gentle, Southern lady and she left a lasting legacy. She is survived by her three children: Robert Edward Lyman, Jr. and wife, Kathy of Knoxville, Lara Lyman Jones and husband, Jesse of Abingdon, Virginia, and Laine Lyman Boerner and husband, Alex of Knoxville. Survivors also include her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren: Alison Kirksey Chimley and husband, Bill of Signal Mountain, Carolyn Kirksey Connor and husband, Brian of Alpharetta, Georgia, Kellie Nicole Boerner of Oak Ridge, and Courtney Boerner Dodson and husband, Jeff of Arlington, Virginia, Catherine Grace Chimley, Virginia Elizabeth Chimley, Rylie Barnes Connor, and Sydney Clare Connor. A private graveside service will be held in Montevallo, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org), The Salvation Army (salvationarmyusa.org), or The Episcopal Church of the Good Samaritan- FISH (goodsamknox.org). The family would like to especially thank all the staff at NHC Farragut Assisted Living and Rehab for taking such good care of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother.
