Wade D. Meadows, age 87, long time resident of Knoxville, passed away into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, whom he faithfully loved and served, on Wednesday, February 9, 2022. He was an active member of Central Baptist Church of Bearden and loved his Sunday School class and weekly men’s bible study group. He also enjoyed serving as the Church’s coordinator of the FISH Pantry ministry. Wade was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, raised in Hendersonville, North Carolina and lived most of his adult life in Knoxville. He graduated from Hendersonville High School and later, Mars Hill College and Appalachian State University. He managed collegiate bookstores at Mars Hill College, Appalachian State University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before serving for over thirty years as the Director of the University of Tennessee Book and Supply Store (now VolShop). He was a former president, chairman and member of the Board of Trustees of the National Association of College Stores, former member of the Board of Directors of the American Booksellers Association, and founder and member of the Board of Directors of the Tennessee Association of College Stores Wade was sweet, kind, gentle, generous, faithful and filled with joy. He had a servant’s heart and sacrificially loved his Lord and Savior, his family and everyone that God placed in his path. He was truly a man of God. Wade was preceded in death by his parents, John Clayton Meadows, Sr. and Sadie Britt Meadows; brothers, John Clayton Meadows and William Callaway Meadows; and sister, Betty Meadows Strickland. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carolyn Self Meadows; daughter, Jennifer Meadows Lukens; son and daughter-in-law, Gregory Dean Meadows and Mary Lee Meadows; granddaughters, Lindsey Meadows, Caroline Lukens, Bethany Meadows, and Annie Lukens; grandsons, Hampton Lukens and John Meadows; sister-in-law Marilyn Fitzgerald and husband, Ed Fitzgerald, brother-in-law Dennis Self and wife Margaret; nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. A private interment will be held at Highland Memorial Cemetery on Friday, February 18, 2022. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall of Central Baptist Church of Bearden beginning at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 19, 2022. A celebration of Wade’s life will follow in the sanctuary at 12:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church of Bearden’s FISH Pantry ministry or Lighthouse ministry.
