Bobbie (Darby) Campbell

Bobbie (Darby) Campbell was born September 30, 1928 in Atlanta Georgia to the late Lawton and Anna Gertrude Manis Darby. She attended Georgia Girls High School and Georgia State University. Bobbie married J. Ed “Fisty” Campbell in 1949 in Atlanta and they moved to Chicago while he did his Ophthalmology residency at the University of Chicago, where she was secretary to the Dean. They returned to Knoxville after 2 years in Tampa, Florida at MacDill Air Force Base. Bobbie was a faithful member at Church Street United Methodist Church and the Murphy Builders Sunday School Class for 50 years before becoming a member at Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church and Providence Presbyterian Church in Hilton Head. She was an active member of The Symphony Guild, The Knoxville Museum of Art, The Medical Auxiliary, Cherokee Country Club, as well as charter member of Cherokee Hills Garden Club. She was a gracious host who loved to entertain. Bobbie enjoyed gardening, reading, tennis, and bridge. She loved to ski and traveled to Colorado and as far as Austria with the Knoxville Ski Club. She and Ed enjoyed traveling all over the world and spent time in their homes in Nassau, Bahamas, Boone, North Carolina and Hilton Head, South Carolina, where they welcomed family and friends frequently. Bobbie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. J. Ed Campbell, Jr. She is survived by her children, J. Ed Campbell, III (Kim), Dr. Philip D. Campbell (Debbie), Marilyn C. Sollenberger (Mark), Darby A. Campbell (Amy), Paige C. Troutman (Chris); grandchildren, Rebecca Rutter (John), Riley Campbell, Matthew Campbell (Tricia), Graham Campbell, Andrew Campbell, Dr. Eric Sollenberger (Anna), Ryan Campbell, Jessica Ravanelle (Adam), Reagan Campbell, Reese Campbell, Davis Troutman, Benjamin Troutman; great-grandchildren, Noah and Campbell Rutter. The Celebration of Bobbie’s Life will be held on Sunday, March 26th at 2:00pm at Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church, officiated by Rev. Mark Lampley. Receiving will follow on the church lawn. In lieu of flowers, a donation in her memory may be made to Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church.
