Boyd Lee Adkins

Boyd Lee Adkins, age 88 of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away on July 22, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born on October 31, 1936 in Oneida, TN. His family moved to Knoxville where he graduated in 1954 from Central High School. Boyd proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army, followed by service in the Army Reserves for several years. He started his career as a draftsman for Good and Goodstein Architects and later designed commercial buildings for BarberMcMurry Architects. He later began his own design and residential building company and continued architectural work until he retired in 2004. He was a member of the Powell Jaycees and the Smoky Mountain Emmaus Community. He especially enjoyed years of serving in Kairos Prison Ministry. He was involved in the Kairos of East Tennessee start up, then later held Tennessee state leadership roles. Throughout his life he enjoyed playing the guitar, collecting and constructing model cars and sharing stories with friends. Boyd was a member of Powell United Methodist Church for 16 years where he attended the Friendship class. After moving to West Knoxville, he became a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church. In both churches he actively served in numerous volunteer and leadership positions. Most recently he attended West Park Baptist Church where he was a member of the Berean Adult Bible Fellowship class. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Patricia Burkhart Adkins, parents Effie and Albert Adkins, sister and brother- law, Jetta and Allen Ballard, brother and sister in law Ray and Kate Adkins. He is survived by his wife of 2 years Wilodene Moore Adkins, daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Kevin Pruitt, College Grove, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Dana Adkins, Knoxville, TN; step-son Mark and Tina Moore, Knoxville, TN; step daughter Patricia Smith, Kennett, MO; grandchildren: Taylor Ryan Pruitt, Nashville, TN; Caitlin and (Adam) Douglas, Camden, TN; Sarah and (Ken) Knox, West Stockbridge, MA; and Emily Adkins and (fiancé Cody Byron) Bluffton, SC; step grandchildren Jake Moore, Jayden Moore, Knoxville, TN; Lauren Chambers, Keri Campbell, and Paige Crafton, Kennett, MO; great-grandchildren: Hudson Knox, Hayes Douglas, Mary Collins Douglas. The family will receive friends at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 2 at West Park Baptist Church, Middlebrook Pike Knoxville. A memorial service will be held afterwards at 11: 45 with Pastor James Lynch officiating. A family burial service will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Fountain City.
