Mrs. Carlene Elizabeth Marshall Campbell

Campbell, Carlene Evans Marshall, age 96, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2015. Carlene was born on July 14, 1918, in the town of Clarksville, Tennessee, (Montgomery Co.), and was the 1st of 3 children born to Floyd & Clara Evans. She was a 1935 graduate of Fredonia High School. During World War II, she married James S. Marshall and moved to Knoxville. After his death in 1958, Carlene pursued an interest in real estate and opened C. Marshall Real Estate in March, 1962. She was the Owner and President of the Company until retiring in 1990. When she was selected to the Knoxville Board of Realtors, she was only the 3rd woman to have done so. Carlene was active in the American Business Women’s Association for many years where she served as President and Secretary. She was elected American Business Woman of the Year for the State of Tennessee in 1970-1971 and was also chosen to be in the top 10 National Business Women of the Year for the same year. For many years while residing in East Knoxville, Carlene was an active member of Macedonia United Methodist Church where she especially enjoyed teaching Sunday School. In recent years, Carlene attended Bearden United Methodist Church. She had also been a member of the Christian Women’s Club and Holston Hills Country Club. Carlene especially enjoyed attending UT ballgames and playing Bridge. Carlene was preceded in death by her parents and first husband; daughter, Devonia Ann; sister, Christine (Mrs. Charles) Brown; and brother-in-law, Charles Brown. Carlene is survived by her husband, Dr. Lon Campbell; son, J. Ronald Marshall (significant other Donna Bryan) of Memphis, TN; stepdaughters and their husbands Kim and Jerry Mantooth of Maryville, TN and Denise and Mark Nay of Ft. Calhoun, NE. Grandchildren include Craig (Jennifer) Marshall of Memphis, TN; Jason (finance Heather) Marshall of Memphis, TN; Justin Marshall (special friend Tiffany) of Dyersburg, TN.; Emily (Mitch) O’Dor of Memphis, TN.; Quentin (Taylor) Marshall of Anaheim Hills, CA. Six great grandchildren, Ethan Marshall, Addison Marshall, Macie Marshall, Preston Marshall, Layla O’Dor, Finn O’Dor. Step-grandchildren include Emily Mantooth of Macon, GA; Ellen (Sawyer) Hill of Raleigh, NC; Patrick Nay (Kat) of Denver, CO; Eric (Gina) Nay and Dylan Nay of Ft. Calhoun, NE; 7 Great-grandchildren. Brother and sister-in-law, Darnell and Ruth Evans of Evansville, IN; Niece, Linda Sue (Don) Asay; Evansville, IN; Nephews, Mike (Elizabeth) Evans of Waverly, GA, and Charles (Elizabeth) Brown of Jonesboro, TN; Betty Grove was a special long-time friend.Funeral service 5:00 PM Thursday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with Reverend Jerry Mantooth and Reverend Sherry Boles officiating.
