Charles Howard Rymer

Charles Howard Rymer of Knoxville, TN passed away peacefully while surrounded by the love of family and our Lord on the morning of Saturday, January 27 2024. Charles lived an incredible life for all of his 92 years. He grew up with a large loving family and especially enjoyed times with his siblings, Jimmy, Pat, Sue, Carolyn, Nancy, and Eddie. Singing gospel songs with them gave him special joy. Charles met his beloved wife Mildred at the young age of 18 while he was serving in the National Guard during the Korean War. He and Mildred were married June 5, 1951 and began their life together in the West Haven community of Knoxville, TN where they raised two beautiful daughters, Cathy and Susan. Charles made great memories with Mildred’s mother and siblings. He was baptized and joined West Haven Baptist Church where he loved singing in the choir and serving as a deacon. During this time, Charles worked his way up in the Jefferson-Smurfit Container Corporation and through hard work became a sales executive. His ability to build strong relationships guided his life to much success. He and Mildred moved to the Westmoreland area and created a beautiful family home where many precious memories were made. As a retiree, he and Mildred spent their time raising their granddaughter Christina, giving her a wonderful upbringing. Charles loved being around his grandchildren Dylan, Peyton, and Tatum as well as his daughters Susan and Cathy. They all brought him such joy. He spent many holidays and special moments with his siblings and their children. His brother Eddie, sister-in-law Jane, and niece Jennifer were neighbors to Charles, Mildred, and Christina and were able to enjoy lots of special times together throughout his life. He and his dear wife Mildred were married for 63 wonderful years. He treated her with the utmost love and respect until her passing in 2016. Later in life, he resided in the family home with Christina, her husband Bryan, and his great-grandchildren Luke and Lilly. He enjoyed cheering on the Tennessee Vols, going out to eat, and hosting family gatherings. Charles moved to Northshore Heights assisted living community in 2022 where he had a blast everyday playing bingo and sitting by the lovely waterfall. Charles was the life of the party at Northshore Heights and could often be found dancing with the residents. Charles made many special memories with family and friends during this time. His incredible caregiver, Kelly Rainey, took him on many adventures and was devoted to caring for Charles. Charles was preceded in death by his dear father James Theopolis Rymer, precious mother Ruth Ann Cate Rymer, loving wife of 63 years Mildred Jeanette Haynes Rymer, and wonderful siblings Jimmy Rymer (Delores), Pat Clowers (Doug), Sue Russell (Andy), and Carolyn Lemanczyk (Bob). He is survived by his devoted siblings Nancy Koontz (Grant) and Edward Rymer (Jane, daughter Dr.Jennifer Rymer). He is also survived by his daughters Susan Rymer and Cathy Rymer, his beloved granddaughter Christina Moscarello Silveira (Bryan) and great-grandchildren Luke and Lilly, and Charles’ special grandchildren Dylan Carver, Peyton Carver, and Tatum Carver. Charles’ life was exemplified by his kindness towards others, and the light of the Lord shined through him. We will never stop telling his stories, and he will always be in our hearts. The visitation will take place at Rose Mann Heritage Chapel located at 6200 Kingston Pike in Knoxville on Friday, February 2 from 6-8. All are encouraged to wear orange and white to celebrate Charles, the ultimate Vol for Life! The traditional graveside service will take place on Saturday, February 3 at 11:00 am at the Highland Memorial Cemetery Chapel.
