Cheryl West

Cheryl Lee Humfeld was born February 21, 1947 at Long Beach Memorial Hospital in California to Joseph and Kathryn Humfeld. She attended First Lutheran School of Long Beach through the 8th grade and graduated from Millikan High School in 1964, where she was a member of the Socii girls sorority. She attended Long Beach City College and became president of the TNT sorority. Cheryl graduated from Long Beach State University in 1968 with a degree in English literature and elementary education. Cheryl was employed for four years as a tour guide at Disneyland. She was also a much beloved Kindergarten teacher at Downey Unified School District and Christian School of the Desert in Bermuda Dunes, CA. Cheryl met Bob West at a Jack-in-the-Box in Long Beach in 1963. Four years later, they married in January of 1967. They had two beautiful daughters, Shannon Kay and Casey Nicole. Cheryl's family meant everything to her. She had five grandchildren: Allison Noelle, Samantha Nicole, Bennett Clark, Mallory Claire, and Amelia Jane. The grandkids affectionally called her Booey, because she always brought them books. Cheryl and Bob were married for 51 years. Cheryl loved her dogs and owned 10 different dogs during her lifetime. Her favorite place to vacation was Hawaii, especially the Napili Sunset on Maui. Cheryl also loved to walk the streets of New York City and Paris, France. Together, Cheryl and Bob lived in nearly a dozen cities across Southern California before moving to Knoxville, TN in 2016. Cheryl and Bob became born again Christians in 1980 after having attended a Zig Ziglar conference. Their first pastor was Chuck Swindoll at the Evangelical Free Church in Fullerton, CA. Their lives and marriage were dramatically changed by the teaching of Scripture, the guidance of the Holy Spirit and Godly believers, and the peace and certainty of eternal life that only comes through the saving grace of Jesus Christ. Cheryl had a blessed life following Jesus for over 38 years with her family and friends. She passed from this life peacefully in her sleep on January 18, 2018. Her example of a Godly woman is one that has been used by the LORD to impact the lives of many. Cheryl is walking with Jesus here and now, and those of us who believe will soon walk with Him also for eternity. A Graveside service will be held 2pm Tuesday, January 23 at Pleasant Forest Cemetery.
