Clarice Bragg Smith (Niceley)

Smith, Clarice Bragg (Niceley) died in Florida after being in a nursing home for 3 ½ years but her home was in Knoxville. Four days after her 87th birthday , God took our mother and Nana to be in his arms on Wednesday October 31, 2012. None could have asked for a more beautiful Mom, inside and out. She always put God first in her life with her family and friends. Clarice was proud and devoted to being one of the first women deacons at Broadway Baptist Church, where she loved singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School. She was a member of Broadway Baptist Church for 77 years only moving away for 10 years. She was first violin chair at Old Knoxville High School and loved playing her baby grand piano. She instilled her love of God that she lived by daily to her children, and all that knew her. She loved and cared for so many especially her Broadway friends and Doris Seay, whom she worked with at CSC for 42 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, James Newport and Willie Mae Bragg. Her husbands, Leonard Ray Smith Sr. and Jack Niceley, brothers James Rives Bragg and Thomas Ray Bragg, sisters Lillian Elizabeth Wheeler (Boyd), Wilma "Chink" Loy (Sam), Judson Bragg Waters (Bryan); brother-in-laws Hubert (Gertrude) and Elmer Joseph Smith and Gary Alan Smith. She is survived by her children: Rebecca "Becky" Smith Stewart (Dan), Pamela Smith King (Ray), and Leonard Ray Smith, Jr. (LaShonte) and Doris Rose Clark (Paul); Grandchildren: Laura Stewart Klassen (Sherman), April Funderburk Sharpe (Steven), Natalie, Howard, Justin, and Micah Smith, and Joseph Daniel Stewart, Jr. (Kelly). Great Grandchildren: Jackson, Preston and Hudson Sharpe; Jacob Daniel and Kaitlin Mae Klassen, Annabelle and Joseph Daniel Stewart III. Sister-in-law; Virginia Smith and many loved nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Sunday November 4, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with Reverend Rick Nuchols and Reverend Harry Hall officiating. Music will be provided by Joyce Hall. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Broadway Baptist Church 815 North Broadway Knoxville, TN. 37917.
