Goodfellow, Dale Hamilton – age 78, resident of Knoxville, Tennessee since 1972, died Sunday, September 28, 2014 at West Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Saratoga Springs, New York, June 11, 1936, she was predeceased by her parents George Frederick Goodfellow, MD, originally from Parham, Ontario, Canada and Helen Dale Allen Goodfellow of Saratoga Springs, New York, brother Frederick Thomas (Ted) Goodfellow (Kathy; grandparents John and Agnes McLeod Hamilton Goodfellow, Parham, Ontario; Frank and Lillian Dale Elliott Allen, Saratoga Springs, New York; Uncles and Aunts, Thomas John (Tom and Nell) Goodfellow, Chester James (Chet and Elsie) Allen, George Franklin (Jean) Allen; and cousins, Virginia Goodfellow McNaughton Birks, (Andrew McNaughton/Arthur Birks), Agnes Goodfellow Fraser (Duncan), Elliott Allen (Jocelyn), Franklin Allen and Chester James Allen Jr. (Jean). Survived by her dear friend Sylvia Hart, cherished niece Karen Renee Goodfellow Fetter, her husband Ross James (Roster) Fetter who was very special to Dale, and their children Hayden James and Hayley Renee; Cousin Evelyn Dale Allen Chamberlain (Ken), their children/grandchildren; children/grandchildren of her predeceased cousins, as well as many other devoted and beloved cousins and a host of close friends and colleagues in New York, Canada, Wisconsin, and Tennessee as well as former students throughout the United States. After completing elementary and secondary schools in Saratoga Springs, New York, she attended the University of Rochester, N.Y., the State University of New York at Buffalo, and George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University where she earned a diploma in nursing, a B.S.N. and M.S.N., and a Ph.D., respectively. After working briefly as a staff nurse at the Saratoga Hospital, thirteen years at The Buffalo Veterans Administration Hospital, and teaching Physiology for two years in the Medical School at SUNY Buffalo, in 1972 she joined the founding faculty of the College of Nursing, University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where she taught until retiring in 1998. More than anything else, she loved her family and her students. Dale was a demanding but beloved teacher who dedicated herself to excellence in classroom teaching and to preparing graduates with high ethical standards who would deliver high quality health care in a variety of settings. She was selected from amongst the total 1300 full time University faculty as a recipient of the UT Knoxville Alumni Association’s Outstanding teacher awards on three occasions, and was selected by the graduating BSN students of the UTK College of Nursing for the annual Outstanding Classroom Teacher Award twenty-two times in the 24 years that she taught rising seniors. In 1983, she was the first recipient of the L.R. Hesler Award for “excellence in teaching and service and demonstrated genuine interest in studentsa nd the University Community.” This award was especially cherished by Dr. Goodfellow since it was the established by the Scarabbean Society, an Honor Society that recognizes and rewards the qualities she valued and demonstrated throughout her academic career. Final interment will be in Parham Cemetery, Parham, Ontario, Canada. A celebration of Dr. Goodfellow's life will be held Tuesday October 28th at 4 pm at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.
