Mrs. Edna F. Shields

Edna F. Brown Shields – age 80 of Knoxville passed away Friday, October 9, 2015. She was a long time member of First Baptist Concord. Edna was born in Aberdeen, Mississippi to the late Hudson Charles and Edna Byford Brown. She married the love of her life Dr. William “Bill” Shields and the adventure began. From Myrtle Beach to Alaska and Hawaii to Tennessee and many places in between they lived a full and blessed life together. Here in Tennessee Edna loved her life. She was the past president of the Knox County Garden Club, a proud member of the Knoxville 69 Order of the Eastern Star, past administrative assistant to FBC music minister Dave Hyers, and retired from TVA with 20 years of service. Many of those jobs Edna held not only for her gentle spirit but also because of her incredible skill on a typewriter. She also loved teaching 2nd grade Sunday school at FBC and did so for over 20 years. Besides Edna’s family and friends, her other passion was for the Tennessee Lady Vols. She and Bill even traveled to Madison Square Garden to see them play once. Edna was wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents Hudson C. Brown and Edna Florence Byford Brown and her son in law Ron W Bracey. Edna is survived by her loving husband of 58 years Dr. William “Bill” Shields; daughter Suzanne Shields Bracey; son and daughter in law Dr. Charles Young Shields and Brenda Stewart Shields; grandchildren Christopher Y. and Courtney E. Shields; brothers; Hudson Brown, Jr., James S. Brown (Joanie Stewart); brother in law, Dr. Mark Young Ivens(Libby Pryse) and their daughters, Rissa P. and Jana P. Ivens. The family will receive friends Monday October 12th from 5:30 – 7:30 pm at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 7:30 pm with Reverend Steve Peek officiating. Family and friends will gather at 1:00pm Tuesday at Lynnhurst Cemetery for a graveside service.
