Guynn Sowell

Guynn Sowell, age 66, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 21st at Park West Hospital in Knoxville, TN surrounded by his wife, Cindy, and their six children, Jacob, Joshua, Naomi, Abby, John-Mark and Justus after a worshipful time of praying, singing and the reading of God's Word in complete surrender with the leadership staff of the Sowell family's church community of Northstar Church - West Campus. Guynn was born on June 1, 1957 in Mobile, Alabama and grew up in Leakesville, Mississippi. After graduating as Valedictorian of Leakesville High School class of 1975, Guynn went on to obtain a BS degree in petroleum engineering from Mississippi State University in Starkville. Guynn was employed by UNOCAL for 25 years and finished his career with SAMPSON, Inc. in 2013. As a country boy growing up in South Mississippi, Guynn learned to work hard by watching his dad do the same. He loved his mama's cooking, especially her homemade biscuits. Guynn loved the simple life and never wanted the spotlight on him. He was a follower of Jesus Christ and a servant at heart because of the example of his Lord and Savior. Guynn loved his family and served and sacrificed unselfishly as a demonstration of the love shown to him. He was a godly man of his word and his loyalty was immeasurable. His devotion and commitment to his family was evident to all wherever he went whether across the states or overseas. His faith was made sight at 11:25AM ET and he heard the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant" and we rejoice together knowing his body is fully healed and has been made whole. Guynn ran his race, he fought the good fight, and he finished STRONG! Guynn is survived by his wife, Cindy Sowell; children, Amy LaRoe, Garrett (Missy) Sowell, Jacob Sowell, Joshua Sowell, Naomi Sowell, Abby Sowell, John-Mark Sowell, and Justus Sowell; grandchildren, Ethan LaRoe, Wyatt, Maizey, and Jett Sowell; brother, Bill (Kim) Sowell; sister, Roberta (Gary) Prentiss. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 25, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at Northstar Church on Sherrill Blvd. A celebration of Guynn’s life will follow at 1:00pm. Family and friends will then travel to Highland West Memorial Gardens (next door to Northstar) for the graveside service.
