Imogene Allen Posey

Knoxville - Imogene Allen Posey passed away May 2, 2021, at the UT Medical Center. She was born November 4, 1929 to the late Virgil and Lucy Stafford Allen. She graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting in 1956 and a Master's Degree in Accounting in 1960. She became a member of Beta Alpha Psi, Beta Gamma Sigma and Phi Kappa Phi honorary fraternities. Imogene became a CPA in Tennessee and served as President of the Knoxville Chapter and of the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants, becoming the first educator and first woman to be President of the State Society. She also achieved the certificate of Management Accounting and later served on the CMA Board of Examiners and on Committees writing the CPA examination for the American Institute of CPAs. She taught Accounting many years at The University of Tennessee, retiring as Associate Professor in December of 1997. She was a long-time member of Second Presbyterian Church, serving as deacon, elder, and Moderator of Presbyterian Women. She served for several years on the Board of the YWCA of East Tennessee and as Treasurer of the Board. After her retirement, Imogene enjoyed traveling and playing bridge. Not only an academic, she was an ardent supporter of UT athletics – especially of the Lady Vols. Imogene loved her family fiercely, and was blessed to live an amazing and inspirational life. Imogene was preceded in death by her husband John C Posey; sons Thomas A. and Robert S. Posey; husband Fred A. Humphrey; sisters Mary A. Goda and Laura Ann Deckert Goda. She is survived by Fred's daughters Carol Humphrey of Knoxville and Jami (John) French of Maryville; brother Mack (JoAnne) Allen of Kissimmee, FL; grandchildren Samuel Posey (Chicago) and Sally Posey (Miami) and their Mother Kristin Posey of Sarasota, FL; and Robert's wife Pat Habjouqa of West Lebanon, NH and her children and grandchildren. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Receiving friends will be held on Friday, May 7 from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life Service immediately following at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 7, 2021, at Rose Funeral and Cremation – Mann in Knoxville; the Rev. Tim Reynolds officiating. Imogene will be cremated and laid to rest privately at Marietta Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery with her husband John and her parents.
