Joyce Kay Pardue Dunn

Joyce Kay Pardue Dunn, age 85, formerly of Springfield, Hendersonville, and Goodlettsville, died on March 20, 2025 in Knoxville, Tennessee from complications of strokes and dementia. She was born November, 12, 1939 in Nashville, Tennessee to Clara Allene Nanney Pardue and Norris Wilson Pardue. Joyce graduated from Southwest Dekalb High School in Decatur, Georgia and Austin Peay State College in Clarksville, Tennessee where she majored in English, minored in Biology, and was active in various organizations. She began her teaching career at Springfield High School teaching English. Later, Joyce added French to her repertoire at Greenbrier High School. Retiring in 2005, her tenure totaled more than fifteen years in classroom and homebound teaching. Joyce loved gardening, including organic vegetables and flowers. She became a member of the Sumner County Master Gardeners and volunteered extensively at Historic Mansker Station, in Goodlettsville. She was the first in her family to go to college and graduate; she taught herself to sew, bake, craft, use a tiller, and drive a tractor. Avid tennis player, work-out queen, ballroom dancer, non-fiction reader, and old-movies-watcher describe Joyce through the years. Joyce was formerly a member of Main Street Church of Christ (Springfield), Madison Church of Christ, and most recently Millersville Church of Christ. She is proceeded in death by her parents, stepfather William R. Floyd, brothers Wilson and Randall Pardue and infant sister Janet Gail Pardue. She is survived by friend and former husband, Jim H. Dunn; daughters Kerry Dunn (Nashville) and Jill Dunn- Helton (beloved son-in-law Cliff) (Knoxville) and son Brad (Knoxville). She is Grandmama to Turner (Mobile, AL), Raegan, and Sloan Helton (both, Knoxville). She is also, survived by sisters, Ann Pardue (Atlanta), Thelma (Dana) Glover (Knoxville), and Beverly (Phillip) Crumbley (Atlanta) and half-brother Richard Floyd (Atlanta), several nephews and their families. Joyce will be remembered for her beautiful smile, sense of style, epic eye rolls, and her grit and determination. Per her wishes, Joyce was cremated and no formal service will be held. Her children will receive family and friends at a reception on Sunday, May 18, 2025 between 2 pm – 3:30 pm at the Millersville Community Center (1181 Louisville Hwy, Goodlettsville, 37072) The family thanks.
