Lloyd O. Morrell

Lloyd O. (Tommy) Morrell – age 82 of Knoxville, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, June 18, 2012 at 12:10 a.m. at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Tommy was born June 29, 1930 to Glen and Viola Morrell. As Tommy was a child he met Miss Dorothy Elizabeth Ekard, whom would become his best friend and the love of his life. Tommy and Dorothy were married in 1949. Prior to their marriage, Tommy joined the Navy in 1947 where he would later serve in the Korean Conflict. After his service in the armed forces, Tommy returned home to his wife and children Timothy Lloyd and Kimberly Ann. Tommy was a member and Deacon of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church in North Knoxville. He was a longtime member and Deacon of McCalla Avenue Baptist Church before its closure. He was a member of the Burlington Lodge #763 F&AM and was a thirty-second degree Mason. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his children Sara Elizabeth Morrell and Linda Elaine Morrell and a brother Herbert Morrell. He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years Dorothy Ekard Morrell; son, Timothy Morrell; daughter and son-in-law Kimberly and Michael Mathews; grandchildren Matthew and Heather Williams and Jessica Williams; great-grandchildren, Cole Williams, Callie Williams and Abby Cooper; brother and sister-in-law Gene and Ann Morrell; sister and brother-in-law Glenda and Lou Hawthorne; brother-in-law, Douglas E. Ekard; several nieces and nephews. Masonic Funeral Rites will be presented by the Burlington Lodge #763 F&AM at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2012 in the chapel of Rose Mortuary followed by a funeral service officiated by Matthew Leonard. Family and friends will meet at 12:45 p.m. on Friday, June 22, 2012 at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel to travel in procession to Sunderland Cemetery in Talbott, Tennessee for a 2:00 p.m. interment service with military funeral rites presented by the East Tennessee Veteran Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Matthew Williams, Glen Morrell, Duke Hawthorne, Eric Hawthorne, Mike Mathews, Jeff Bridges, Teddy Greene and Doug Ekard.
