Lynn Christine Larsen

Lynn Christine Larsen died on April 27, 2024 peacefully at home in Knoxville, TN at the age of 71. Lynn had waged a strong and dignified fight against Lewy Bodies Dementia for several years. Lynn is survived by her spouse of 37 years, Richard "Red" Geurts; her step sons Joshua (Dorine) Geurts, Brian (Myrthe) Geurts; her brother James Larsen; her nephews Daood (Janice) Larsen and Jay (Dana) Larsen; 4 grandchildren, 5 grand nephews and nieces, 1 great grandson and a very extended family by marriage to Red. She is preceded in death by her parents Everett and Elsie Larsen. Lynn was born on October 18, 1952 in Oak Park (Chicago), Illinois to Everett and Elsie Larsen. She graduated from Illinois State University with a BS (1976) in English and a MS (1981) in Industrial Technology - Occupational Safety. While working as a Safety and Health Engineer for Bunge, Corp in 1982 Lynn met Red in Cincinnati, Ohio at a Grain Industry Conference. They were Married in 1986 in St. Paul, MN. Lynn dedicated her life and professional career to helping people. As an engineer and safety professional she wrote and taught safety and training procedures for the companies for which she worked. In 1993 she formed a consulting business, Safety Solutions, Inc, and as the owner, continued her career as a safety and health consultant to a wide array of businesses across the country. Lynn's life long passion for knowledge and learning was best displayed in her work helping people, whether she was in a manufacturing plant or construction site training and helping "Hardhats" work safely, in a classroom helping immigrant groups study for their Citizenship Exams, or teaching GED classes to adults committed to improving their lives. She truly enjoyed working with younger people, who were working to improve themselves whether it was a resume, applications to get into school or choices in careers. She loved her time with her kids and then her Grandkids helping them to expand their view of the world and learning. Lynn was a very proud member of the Junior League, the Association of Safety Professionals and the Grain Elevator and Processing Society; all organizations dedicated to self-improvement and helping others. Her infectious smile and laugh pulled people to her and helped form the bonds she truly cherished with friends and family across the globe. A private service and interment will be held at a future date in Chicago, IL at Irving Park Cemetery. For anyone who knows Lynn, the best memorial you can provide is to engage a stranger in a meaningful discussion and help them to feel important and valued.
