Margaret Elizabeth Smith

Smith, Margaret Elizabeth – age 89, of Knoxville, TN, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at Tennova Residential Hospice. She was a member of First Christian Church of Knoxville. She was born on June 4, 1924, in Jacksonville, Illinois, to Elmo C. and M. Elizabeth Little. At the age of eight she moved to California where she attended Catholic boarding school and graduated from Catholic High School in Santa Barbara. Mrs. Smith was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed. She was a true "homemaker", who devoted her life to her family. She loved reading, cooking, arts and crafts, sewing, and her gardens with beautiful flowers, butterflies and birds. Preceded in death by parents, Elmo C. and M. Elizabeth Little; daughter, Helen (Sally) Lallatin; and son, Frank C. Smith, II. She is survived by her husband of seventy years, Frank C. Smith, retired from Knoxville City Schools; daughters, Dr. Mary Lou (Vincent) Kanipe of Knoxville, TN, Sue (Ed) McElyea of San Antonio, TX and Betty Henderson of Knoxville, TN, formerly of Daytona Beach, FL; thirteen grandchildren, Debbie (Jon) Hermanson of Knoxville, TN, Tom (Dana) McElyea of Southlake, TX, Bob (Berna) McElyea of Houston, TX, Tammy (Joe) Davenport of Knoxville, TN, Sherry (Scott) Garrett of San Antonio, TX, Lori (Scott) Asbury of Powell, TN, Jenny (Andy) Ferrell Crestview, FL, Paula (Jose) Quinones of Boca Raton, FL, Frank Smith, III of Gulfport, MS, Tracy Jackson of Knoxville, TN, Stacy (Greg) Tye of Knoxville, TN, Kristin (Steve) Smith of Oak Ridge, TN, and Shana Smith of Sevierville, TN; twenty-three great-grandchildren; twelve step-great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; three step great-great grandchildren; sister-in-laws, Mary Lou Laws and Helen Teague of Elizabethton, TN; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel. The family and friends are invited to attend funeral services at 7:00 pm, following the visitation at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with The Rev. Tyler Thompson and The Rev. Monsignor Xavier Mankel, VG officiating. The family and friends will gather at 10:30 am, Friday, May 3, 2013 at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel and travel in procession to Greenwood Cemetery for an 11:00 am interment service.
