Marian Miller Broome

Marian Miller Broome (94) passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 11, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 16, 1929, in Knoxville, TN and resided there most of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse A. Miller. Marian’s love of life and cheerful spirit touched the hearts of family and friends alike. While attending Knoxville High School, she served as an ROTC Sponsor for her future husband, Bill. Upon graduating in 1947, she attended the University of Tennessee where she was a cherished member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Marian served her church and community faithfully for many years. She was an active member of Second Presbyterian Church, the Junior League of Knoxville, Tri Delta Alumnae Group, the Knoxville Nativity Pageant, garden club, Golden Cloggers and the Dogwood Arts Festival. She celebrated her love for others by sharing roses from their beautiful garden, writing special poems or just calling to wish someone well. She particularly enjoyed her friends in the “Fork and Foam” supper club that met regularly for 70 years. Marian was passionately devoted to her family, and they will cherish the many memories of time spent at Norris Lake and their cabin in the Smoky Mountains. Marian is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, William S. Broome, Jr. (Bill), and three sons, Dr. William S. Broome III (Bill and Amy), Dr. Monte A. Broome (Jan) and Benjamin A. Broome (Ben and Sherry). Dearly known as “Gigi,” she will forever be remembered by her ten grandchildren, Andy Broome (Cameron), Jenny Greer (Ryan), Jeff Broome (Danielle), Caroline Hamilton (Lucas), Megan Cantrell (Scott), Annie Tipton (A.J.), John Broome (Ann Louise), Cally Broome, Molly Thomas (Josh) and Adair Brannen (Joe), as well as nineteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Dr. Kippy Miller and wife Jean Ann and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Friends and family are invited to a memorial service at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 24th at Second Presbyterian Church (2829 Kingston Pike), the Reverend Tim Reynolds officiating. The family invites everyone for a family visitation immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made at her request to the Flower Fund at Second Presbyterian Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
