Myrtle F. Bartolini

Bartolini, Myrtle F., 96, passed away peacefully of natural causes on January 19, 2015. She is predeceased by her husband of 72 years, R. Paul Bartolini, who passed away peacefully on January 4, 2015; her son Richard Bartolini; parents and siblings. She is survived by daughter Mary Bartolini and husband Thomas Kulaga; sons David Bartolini and partner April Blevins; William Bartolini and partner Juan Saenz-Ferreyros; daughter-in-law Deborah Bartolini; and by extended family and friends. A “colorist”, Myrtle was a successful artist whose mediums included oil, acrylic, watercolor, pen and ink, pastel, paper, pottery, stained glass, plastic, wood, rosemaling, yarn, and crochet. Her works, from realism to impressionism to abstracts, have been purchased worldwide; appeared in over 15 one-person exhibitions; hung in galleries across the United States, including the Chicago Art Institute, National Women of the Arts in Washington. She competed in local, state and national art juried completions, and has won numerous awards, including best of show in the Dogwood Arts Festival. Myrtle was a lifelong learner, the author of two books; a family genealogist who traced her lineage to William the Conqueror. She was a wonderful cook creating fresh dishes by using food and herbs from Paul’s garden. She would often give food away to others, those in need or who were ill. She was an excellent seamstress who won awards for her work; created jewelry using metal, gems or beads; attended all types of cultural and sporting events; played cards with her husband daily, square danced, hiked in nature admiring trees, leaves and rocks; served humanity in many roles, including inspecting bullets during World War II.Myrtle juried children’s artwork; active in DAR; served on the board of the local YWCA; a charter member of ArtGroup21 and The Art Market; became very active in the fledging local art scene in the 1980’s in order to promote art in Knoxville.Public visitation with finger food will be Thursday evening, 5-7pm, February 5, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Church, with a memorial mass following. Public burial will be Friday morning, 11:30am, February 6, 2015 at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery on Governor John Sevier Highway.
