Norman Eugene Watson

Norman Eugene Watson, “Norm”, age 94, went home to heaven on February 17, 2025. He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Hanson; step-daughter, Denise Majors; step-son, David Nation; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Norm, a “Florida Cracker” and Gator fan, never met a stranger; he loved people and was always popping in for visits or to deliver his homemade peanut brittle, a specialty of his, along with his famous pecan and peanut butter pies and dream bars. He was known for his generosity and kindness. Anyone that knew him would tell you what a good man he was and how he loved to help others. A US Navy Veteran of almost 30 years, he was known as “Doc Watson” and “Stormin’ Norman”. He was an avid Ham Radio Operator, K4FQX, serving during his military and civilian careers. He was active in the Shriners for over 50 years, serving as a Van Driver taking children to Shrine hospitals in 3 states, and as a Shrine Circus clown, called “Stormin Norman”. He was also a Master Mason, active in the Knoxville Kerbela Temple Grand Lodge Cherokee #798, the Hillbillies Club, Order of the Eastern Star, Worthy Patron Laurel #22, and many other organizations, holding several offices and receiving many honors for his contributions and service. Norm was also a long-time member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Norm was a regular at MEDIC in Knoxville, donating hundreds of units of blood and platelets and proud to be “Super Donor” status. He also served as a Volunteer during the Olympic Games of the XXVI Olympiad, 1996. Norm had a very full and active life. He had a positive impact on many lives and will be remembered for his love for others, dedication and service, quick wit, and naturally his peanut brittle and pies. A special thanks goes to the staff at Morning Pointe Westland, at NHC Farragut Memory Care 200 Unit, UT Hospice and his Veteran’s Home-Based Care team. All of these wonderful people provided Norm with care, compassion, love, support and joy and were a true blessing. A Celebration of Life will be held at Ebenezer United Methodist Church at 1001 Ebenezer Rd, Knoxville, TN 37923 at 1pm on March 1, 2025. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Kerbela Temple Knoxville, the Shriners Hospital for Children, and/or Ebenezer United Methodist Church designated for Missions.
