LTC Phillip Edwin Hukill, USA Retired

Lieutenant Colonel Phillip Edwin Hukill, USA Retired, passed away in Goodyear Arizona on December 3, 2015. He was 84 years of age. Phillip recently moved to Pebble Creek, Goodyear, Arizona from Farragut Tennessee. Colonel Hukill also lived in Dallas, Texas; Pomona, California; Valencia, California. Colonel Hukill’s family was from Skagway where he was raised until high school when his family moved to Juneau, Alaska. It was in Juneau, at the age of 12 and while in school, when the Junior Territorial Guard, of which he was a member, was called up to help defend the Aleutian Islands against the Japanese attacks during World War II. He served in this defense role for four months after which he returned to school. LTC Hukill joined the Army in 1948 where he served his country for 21 years, retiring as Lieutenant Colonel having received the second highest military award, the Legion of Merit, for his exceptionally meritorious services. He retired from the Army and worked on the financial team at Lockheed Aircraft Corporation developing the L-1011. On his final retirement he became a member of the National Unified Service Corps, a second responder to nature’s turbulent disasters; supplying food and general urgent clean up services to those affected by disasters. He supported the Army Emergency Relief fund which was established to help Soldiers and their Family members who experience financial emergencies. AER provides funds to help Soldiers with immediate financial needs with rent, utilities, emergency travel, etc. Phillip is survived by his wife Linda Wolverton of 32 years, his two daughters, Lynn and Crystal, his son Mark and his sister Betty Lou. A memorial services will be held 4:30 PM Friday, April 8, 2016 at Rose Mortuary Chapel, 6200 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN with Reverend Nicole Krewson officiating. Full military honors will be presented by The volunteer State Veterans’ Honor Guard. LTC Hukill will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery.
