Shirlie Claire Goodfriend

GOODFRIEND, SHIRLIE B. - age 93, of Sarasota, Florida, formerly of Athens, Tennessee, passed away in her home on May 6, 2011. She was a long time member of Temple Beth El in Knoxville, TN. Shirlie was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio and moved to Athens, Tennessee after her marriage to Morris (Mike) Goodfriend in 1942. She worked for many charities caring for children during WW II. She was a loving wife and mother to her two children. Shirlie was a den mother for cub scouts and boy scouts. She enjoyed playing bridge, and was a member of several garden clubs, and she was a wonderful cook. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frances Hirschberg and Jack Buchman; and her brother Robert Buchman. She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Morris (Mike) Goodfriend of Sarasota, Florida; her daughter Linda and son-in-law Gary Johnson of Maryville, TN; son Robert M. Goodfriend and daughter-in-law Wendy of Knoxville, TN. Grandsons and wives Joshua and Heather Chrusciel of Charlotte, NC; Jeffrey and Kaye Goodfriend of Knoxville, TN; Granddaughters and husbands; Ashley and Jeff Hollis of Gallatin, TN, and Stacey and Marc Hodulich of NYC. Great-grandchildren; Blake Chrusciel, Riley Goodfriend, Gabby Goodfriend, Evie Hollis, Anabel Hollis, and Chase Hodulich. Cousin Robert Fleischer of Atlanta, GA; Sister-in-law Evelyn Buchman of Cincinnati, OH; niece Kathy Buchman of Las Vegas, Nevada, and half-brother Roy Buchman of California. Services will be held at Temple Beth El in Knoxville, TN on Tuesday, May 10th, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. with Rabbi Beth Schwartz officiating. Burial will follow at the New Jewish Cemetery. Afterwards friends may visit with the family at the home of Robert and Wendy Goodfriend in Knoxville, TN. A memorial will be also be held at a later date in Sarasota, Florida. Pallbearers will be Joshua Chrusciel, Jeffrey Goodfriend; Jeff Hollis; Marc Hodulich, Randy Mullins and Bob Whaley.
