Thomas Allen Key

Thomas Allen Key – age 65 of Knoxville, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at home. He was a member of Knoxville Christian Center and Grace Baptist Church. Thomas was a Christian, active in the service of, and loved to sing for, the Lord. Thomas was a distinguished military graduate engineer of officer candidate school, he was awarded the American Spirit Honor Medal. Thomas was a Cpt. in the Army, served as general's staff officer, and as a mechanized infantry company Commander. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Tennessee. Thomas was Knoxville's first undercover narcotics police officer, first OSHA Director for the city of Knoxville, CTO/CIO for U.S. Senator Albert Gore, Jr., second Director of Knox County Emergency Communication District. Thomas designed, developed, and implemented international telemedicine for St. Jude Children's research hospital. He was the Director Executive International for Ireland's children for children and adult care foundation, implementing nationwide telemedicine for the Isle of Ireland and recognized by the national legislature of the Republic of Ireland as one of the top five telemedicine experts in the world. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents Charles Allen Key, Jr. and Lillie Mae Whitehurst Key, his sister Rosa Evelyn Doran, and daughter Natalie Ruth Key. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years Sherran Bradford Key; daughter and son in law, Jessica Rose and Jose Lomeli; daughters, Elizabeth Wildsmith, Susan and Barbara Key; twin brother Charles Joseph Key, and many other family and friends. The family will receive friends Monday Jan 2, 2012 from 12:00 - 1:00 pm at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with funeral services following at 1:00 pm with Pastor Barry Culberson officiating. Interment to follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery with full military honors presented by the Army National Guard and Volunteer State Veterans Honor Guard.
