Willard Jackson Moore

MOORE, WILLARD JACKSON - age 80 of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully in Hospice Care at Ross Memorial Health Care Center in Kennesaw, Georgia on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, after an extended bout with Cerebellar Ataxia. Willard was preceded in death by parents, Fred and Cora Moore of Clinton, TN. He is survived by his wife, Faye Moore of Knoxville, TN; son, Joseph Patrick Moore and wife Karen Moore of White, Georgia; daughter, Julianna Moore Bump and her husband Michael Bump of Kirksville, Missouri; daughter, Susan Moore Messer and grandson, Matthew Thomas Messer of Griffin, Georgia; sister-in-law, Sue Rayburn of Knoxville, TN; and a host of relatives and friends. Mr. Moore was born on March 2, 1931 in Clinton, Tennessee and graduated from Clinton High School in 1949, before serving in the United States National Guard and United States Navy from June 1949 through June 1953. Following his service to our country, he was recognized with numerous awards of achievement for his many years of dedication and service at the Oak Ridge, Tennessee, nuclear plant K-25/Union Carbide/Martin Marietta. He retired in 1992 after 38 years of loyal service as a Graphic Arts Supervisor. Additionally, he was a member of Rocky Hill Baptist Church for many years. Throughout his life, Mr. Moore was an avid golfer and spent years perfecting his craft. He was a member of both the Deane Hill Country Club and the Quail Creek Country Club in Knoxville, Tennessee. He enjoyed golfing in local tournaments and was proudly recognized by the Knoxville Sentinel in 1969 for having shot his first hole in one! He also enjoyed old cars, movies, gardening, woodworking and fishing. Mr. Moore's greatest passion was his family. He was a loving father and doting grandfather. His legacy will be the love and importance of family he so proudly instilled in each of his three children. The family would like to thank Dr. Randolph Lowry of Knoxville for years of excellent care, Dr. Alexander Kessler of Canton, GA for his care and kindness, Fred and Mary Carter of Knoxville who contributed so much in making his life easier and Bill and Carolyn Dunn of Knoxville for their love and support. Family will receive friends on Friday June 10th from 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel in Knoxville, TN with Funeral to proceed at 2:00 p.m. Graveside services will follow at 4:00 p.m. located at Norris Memorial Gardens in Norris, Tennessee.
